Animal Control
The City of Coleman regulates the care and control of animals within the city limits. The office of the Animal Control Officer (ACO) is located inside City Hall, located at 200 W. Liveoak. However the duties of the ACO require frequent patrol and animal care requiring them to be outside the office frequently. The ACO may be contacted either through the main number to City Hall, 325-625-4116, or by cell phone 325-214-1836. Regulations concerening the care and treatment of animals can be found in Chapter 2 of the Code of Ordinances.
The animal control officer is designated as the local health authority and has authority to appoint representatives to enforce the provisions of this chapter, to receive reports of animal bites, investigate animal bites, ensure quarantine of possibly rabid animals and otherwise carry out provisions of state law pertaining to control and eradication of rabies, dangerous dogs and other state laws and local ordinances pertaining to animals in the city.
The Animal Control Facility is located at 601 Guadalupe. If your pet is missing and you suspect they have been picked up, please contact the ACO as soon as possible. If the owner of an impounded pet cannot be located within four (4) days, the animal may be turned over to a local shelter for adoption, or destroyed.
