Accounting Clerk

Under the general direction of the City Manager, the Accounting Clerk will provide assistance and support to the accounting operation of the City. This position will be responsible for a variety of highly sensitive and confidential accounting duties including bi-weekly payroll processing and managing accounts payable and payment processing. The candidate must be highly motivated, detail oriented, work with a high degree of accuracy, and strive for success and commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the City of Coleman. These values are the foundation of the organization. This position will also work closely with the Human Resources Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process and complete weekly accounts payable, and bi-weekly payroll tasks including gathering necessary information, accurate data entry, completing all necessary forms, following established processes and procedures for all accounts payable and payroll tasks.
  • Assist City staff with all payroll and accounts payable questions as needed.
  • Communicates effectively, courteously, and clearly with vendors and employees by telephone, in person, or in writing.
  • Perform a variety of tasks, often changing quickly from one task to another without the loss of efficiency and composure.
  • Simultaneously input, retrieve, and maintain information, from computer and printouts.
  • Prepares reports to include but not limited to: 941 reporting, Sec 125 deductions, Retirement Contributions, and W2's.
  • Performs all job functions related to the administration of accounts payable and purchase orders as directed by supervisor.
  • Responsible for timely completion of payment of all routine accounts payable, invoices and statements per schedule.
  • 1099 processing for distribution to vendors and filing with IRS.
  • Uses 10 key by touch; sorts and files; makes various journal entries by hand.
  • Participate in special projects, initiatives, and provide general support to other departments as directed by supervisor.
  • Perform other duties and fulfill responsibilities as required or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); must be able to create and understand basic Excel formulas and functions.
  • Detail oriented and works with high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent documentation skills.
  • Ability to efficiently multitask.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Read, understand and review documents for accuracy and relevant information.
  • Organize, prioritize, and follow-up on work assignments.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-years responsible related payroll and accounts payable experience.
  • Associates degree or higher in accounting or other relevant field preferred but not required.

Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Required Licenses/Certificates/Background:

  • Must complete a pre-employment Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities exam.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Must submit and successfully pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screen.
  • Requires a valid Texas drivers’ license.

Field Maintenance Worker

Under the general direction of the Public Works Director and/or their designee, the field maintenance worker is responsible for performing semi-skilled work operating one of several types of light equipment used in road repair, mowing, and trimming of trees; Clean and removes debris from streets, parks, drainage ditches, and other areas; includes various types of common labor work in the maintenance or construction of parks, streets and other public properties; performs other tasks associated with the public works division; and assists with other tasks as directed. This position is required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operates small to light equipment.
  • Performs minor maintenance or service checks on equipment.
  • Performs unskilled and semi-skilled labor work related to various maintenance and construction activities.
  • Cleans and removes debris from streets, parks, drainage ditches, city parks and other areas.
  • Maintain clean and well-functioning equipment at all times.
  • Performs patches on streets and deposits asphalt on surfaces to be covered, rakes, and rolls asphalt.
  • Takes part in placement of barricades, signs, flashers and safety cones.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Experience and Education

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1 year preferred- experience of common labor work and knowledge of common tools.
  • Experience in the division or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to read and write.

Other Requirements

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Must submit to and successfully pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screen.

Physical Demands

Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions; Work may involve exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, etc.; Must be physically capable of performing the duties of a field maintenance worker. This position is a 100% physical labored job. Must be able to lift and carry 50-75 pounds.

Police Officer

The City of Coleman Police Department is seeking Police Officers who want to make a difference. The successful candidate must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid current law enforcement license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Starting salary for patrol officers is $19.50/hr.

Hiring incentive and/or moving expenses may be available based on experience and location.

Cadets both currently in the academy and recently graduated are encouraged to apply. Tuition reimbursement options are available for cadets or recent graduates with valid receipts.

The position includes an excellent benefits package, including longevity pay and TMRS retirement with a 7% employee contribution and 2/1 matching by the city. This position will remain open until filled. The schedule will be 12-hour shifts with every other weekend off. We offer certificate pay for Intermediate, Advanced, and Masters Peace Officer certifications. Take-home vehicle provided if you live within Coleman County.
