The City Secretary acts as the administrative assistant to City Administration and the City Council. The City Secretary is responsible for the preparation and posting of agendas for public meetings, prepares minutes of those meetings to be approved by the Council, and is the official record keeper of all city records.

One of the most important functions of the City Secretary is the administration of elections for the City of Coleman. Coleman conducts elections on the first Saturday of May each year for the election of the City Council, as well as any special elections that may be required.
